New World View: Tunisia

Ten years after the start of the Arab Spring, we celebrate the flourishing of Tunisian cinema. Tunisia’s new generation of filmmakers is defined by stylistically diverse and innovative films, the contents of which not only makes use of the new freedoms found in the country’s social discourse, but also contribute to establishing those freedoms. Thus, this cinema deals not only with the realities of a people caught between pre-revolutionary traditions and a spirit of social awakening, but also tackles such burning issues as familial (patriarchal) structures, mismanagement, emigration and religious fanaticism. This doesn’t exclude excursions into the poetic and fantastical, however. We wish you an inspiring cinematic journey to North Africa.
