Accessibility & Inclusion

The Zurich Film Festival is committed to making culture accessible to everyone – spatially, socially, and organizationally. Accessibility

We want all visitors to be able to experience the ZFF without any obstacles. That's why the main festival venues are barrier-free and equipped with appropriate facilities, including wheelchair access, lifts, accessible toilets, and designated seats in the cinemas.

Films

The vast majority of ZFF films are screened in their original language with subtitles (German and/or English, French) to enable hearing-impaired viewers to follow the dialogue. Since 2017, participation for visually impaired people has also been made possible: In cooperation with the organisation "Regards Neuf", German-language films are now offered with audio description.

Inclusion in festival operations – collaboration with the St. Jakob Foundation

The Zurich Film Festival sees culture as a public space that should be open to everyone. This includes enabling people with disabilities to participate fully in everyday work and festival life. In this spirit, we work closely with the St. Jakob Foundation, an institution that has been committed to professional integration and social participation for over 120 years.

During the 21st Zurich Film Festival, numerous employees of the St. Jakob Foundation were on duty – in service, at the cloakroom, in cinema support, and in logistics and guest areas. Accompanied by educational specialists, they take on responsible tasks, gain work experience at a live event, and visibly contribute their skills.

The collaboration results in:
• For employees: greater independence, real-world work experience, and participation in the public sphere
• For the festival: professional support and a working environment where diversity is a matter of course
• For visitors: refreshing encounters with exciting personalities

More on workplace integration:
With its “Integrative Workplaces” program, the St. Jakob Foundation offers structured employment and development opportunities for people who need support. More information here.

The success of this collaboration is demonstrated in a story on SRF’s “10 vor 10” program, which follows 30 employees of the St. Jakob Foundation during their work at the festival.

For questions regarding barrier-free access or inclusion at the ZFF, please contact us by email or phone. We're also there for you personally at our Help Desk during the festival.
