    Career Achievement Award for Film Composer Mychael Danna

    The Zurich Film Festival honours the Canadian film score composer Mychael Danna with the Career Achievement Award for his life’s work. The award will be presented to Danna on September 30 during the 9th International Film Music Competition at the Tonhalle Zurich, where he presides over this year’s competition jury. Among Danna’s list of best-known works is the score for the literary adaptation of LIFE OF PI, which brought him an Oscar in 2013.

    These are the Finalists of the 9th International Film Music Competition

    More than 180 composers from 37 countries entered the 9th International Film Music Competition. The jury, presided over by the Canadian Academy Award-winning film composer Mychael Danna, chose three compositions to enter the final. These compositions will be world premiered by the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich on September 30 prior to the winner being announced on the same evening during an award ceremony.     Danish acting newcomer Sandra Guldberg Kampp is the face of this year's ZFF campaign. She was photographed by Gabriel Hill from Basel during her visit to the last ZFF, where she presented her film WILDLAND. The photographer reveals to us in a short interview why the first minutes at a shoot are the most important and how the ZFF has opened  doors for his career.

    Call for entries for Prix Pathé launched

    After a one-year break, the Prix Pathé for Film Journalism will be awarded again in 2021. It rewards outstanding film criticism and is endowed with 10,000 Swiss francs. The call for entries is open until June 21.

    NOMADLAND wins Oscar for Best Film

    The big winners at this year's Oscars are the makers of NOMADLAND, which won Best Picture and took home two other top prizes: Chloé Zhao was awarded for directing, Frances McDormand for leading actress. The road movie was shown as a gala premiere at ZFF last autumn. Our festival films SOUND OF METAL and THE FATHER were also honoured with two additional Oscars each.
