Andres Escobar and Pablo Escobar were connected by a love of football. Although unrelated, both shared the same surname and were born in the Columbian city of Medellìn. Pablo, who rose to become Columbia’s number 1 drug baron and spearheaded the Medellìn cartel, was murdered in 1993. Andres, one of the Columbian national team’s best-loved members was assassinated in his home town after scoring a home goal during the 1994 World Cup. This film exposes the startling connection between the murders of Andres and Pablo, two events that stained the era of Columbian football. It also highlights the “narco-soccer” phenomena, through which politically unstable Columbia hoped to polish up its internationally tarnished image.
