Northern England, 1988. Jean is an exemplary sports teacher: Professional, motivated and respected by her students. No one suspects that she is leading a double life. But Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government has just passed a law that stigmatises homosexuals and could cost Jean her job. While she feels increasingly observed in everyday school life, she dives headlong into the LGBTQ club scene at night together with her friend Viv. When Jean meets one of her new students at a lesbian bar, she is faced with a drastic decision. In atmospheric images, director Georgia Oakley takes us right to the heart of England's politically conservative – and musically exciting – culture of the late 1980s.
