A Dangerous Method

by David Cronenberg Gala Premieres

Zurich, shortly before the outbreak of the First World War. Psychiatrist C.G. Jung receives a young Russian patient named Sabina Spielrein in the clinic. He wants to treat the emotionally unstable woman using the latest Freudian methods and begins a correspondence with Sigmund Freud himself, which becomes the basis of their friendship. Jung, however, succumbs to his patient’s mysterious charisma and begins an affair with her. His friendship with Freud cools when they find themselves at loggerheads over their professional views. Spielrein, now cured, wants to train as a psychiatrist and asks Freud to help her. He is not averse to the idea of taking his colleague’s muse under his wing – but it’s not long before he too falls under the spell of this extraordinary woman.
