The Current War
In the 1880s, the rivalry between two of the greatest inventors of the industrial age is peaking. Cigar-smoking loner Thomas Edison astounds the world as he envelops Manhattan’s nocturnal streets in light with his new electrical system – challenging the upper-middle-class gentleman George Westinghouse in the process. Westinghouse, meanwhile, is forced to rethink his gas-based system. With the help of up-and-coming inventor Nikola Tesla, he not only identifies serious deficiencies in Edison’s DC system, but also invests everything he has into the risky AC system. A fierce competition centred on the question of who will lead the world into a new age begins. Focusing on the talent of its actors, the enlightening historical drama THE CURRENT WAR takes us through an underexposed chapter of modernism.
