The water is a sea of flames, billowing clouds of black smoke – hell on earth. On April 20, 2010, the oilrig Deepwater Horizon exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, causing a major environmental disaster. The leaking oil spread like an epidemic over the surface of the sea – with devastating consequences for both humanity and nature. A resident of the Gulf region, filmmaker Margaret Brown allows various parties, both those affected and those involved, to have their say in THE GREAT INVISIBLE. We hear from two former employees on the platform, relatives of accident victims, unemployed fishermen, residents of the Gulf Coast region and representatives of the oil industry. The film examines the complex issue of oil recovery from different perspectives.
