Early one morning, entirely innocent Miriam, is accused of human trafficking. She is locked away for years in a prison reputedly run by a notorious Golf cartel. In Mexico, ‘pagadores’ is the name given to those who have to pay the price for somebody else’s crime. In an environment of permanent fear, we also find the story of Adela, whose daughter disappeared without trace one day. Director Tatiana Huezo stimulates our imaginations by visualizing these two women’s stories in the form of a trip across Mexico. It is a highly poetic, charming yet frightening image of a country that is fighting a constant, barely visible war against the power of cartels. A challenging and immensely powerful film.
