Nick and his younger brother suffered from poverty, abuse and alcohol in childhood. Now in his mid-thirties, Nick lives alone in a council apartment and has no intention of controlling his anger or changing his temperament. When Nick is no longer able to deal with his solitude and childhood memories, he turns to the bottle. Even his beautiful neighbour, Sophie, does not have the capacity to offer him solace; he reduces their relationship to sex. Nick’s brother, on the other hand, suffers in the knowledge that his fatherly instincts are diminished by his heroin addiction. The two brothers have spent their whole lives trying to forget, understand and love. Then they are given a chance to realise that they are not entirely responsible for their screwed-up lives.
