In a snowy, whistle-stop provincial town in Minnesota a car salesman tries to free himself from financial misery by planning a criminal coup: His wife is to be kidnapped and his rich father-in-law blackmailed. But the situation gets out of control, drawing the plan to the attention of a cunning police officer.
