by Hu Bo
Over the course of one single day in a northern Chinese city, the paths of four people finding themselves close to despair cross. Bu is on the run after pushing school tyrant Shuai down the stairs. His classmate Ling has embarked on a dangerous affair. Meanwhile Shuai's brother is riddled with guilt about his best friend’s suicide. And pensioner Wang is afraid that his son wants to put him in a home... AN ELEPHANT SITTING STILL is an electrifying, monumental work and a magnificent composition of images that has been celebrated ever since its premiere at the Berlinale. Tragically, director Hu Bo's haunting debut feature is his testament at the same time. The 29 year old took his own life on October 12, 2017, shortly after finishing the film.
