Rory Jansen dreams of a career as an author – but he lacks the talent. His liaison with the attractive Dora encourages him to muster all his powers and complete his manuscript, which according to his publisher is unsellable. However, chance places another author’s material in his hands. On yellowed pages and typed on a typewriter, the story describes a love affair set in 1930s Paris – and is staggeringly good. Rory hesitates at first, but his desire for recognition and fame is greater than his scruples. He writes down the stranger’s lines word for word and passes it off as his own. When Rory’s plagiarism earns him bestseller status, the shadows of his past catch up with him, and when real author of the story turns up, Rory must make a difficult decision.
