by Dmitrii Kalashnikov
Bumpy roads and horrifying accidents, flying fists and foul-mouthed abuse, the dry humour of a passenger and frightening or awe-inspiring natural phenomena – these are just some of the things caught by dash cams attached to cars on the streets of Russia. Like the meteorite in Chelyabinsk, which took the Internet by storm in 2013, thousands of similar videos can be found all over the Internet. Director Dmitrii Kalashnikov strings this endless abundance of material together to create a road movie in the truest sense of the term. His film not only depicts the current state of Russia’s streets, but also offers a humorous, dark, hugely entertaining and highly poetic peek at the Russian soul.
