Los Angeles, at the end of the 1920s. The arrogant silent film star George Valentin spots a beautiful girl in the audience during one of his public performances. It’s Peppy Miller, and he immediately organises a small role for her in one of his productions. Thanks to her youthful charm, Peppy soon find her way into the hearts of the audience. Valentin’s decline begins with the stock market crash in the autumn of 1929: his wife leaves him, his possessions go under the hammer and he waves goodbye to his faithful chauffeur of many years. The talkies have arrived. While Valentin’s bubble pops, Peppy makes her breakthrough and becomes the new darling of the Dream Factory. With his feather-light silent movie, director Michel Hazanavicius has created a humorous and charming homage to the Roaring Twenties.
