New York detective Brian Heigh has been sent to the Gulf of Mexico to help his colleague Jake Souder solve a mysterious murder. The trail leads the two to Texas City’s red-light district. At the same time, a body is found in the boggy fields on the outskirts of the city. The ‘killing fields’, as they’re called, are well known as the scene of a series of unsolved murders that took place some years ago. The investigators initially discount any connection between the crime in the city and the one on the outskirts. But then the murderer himself appears, and begins a sadistic cat-and-mouse game with his hunters. A densely atmospheric and grippingly-told serial killer thriller.
