The border between Mexico and Belize in 1920. Deep in the lawless jungle, a group of Mexican workers meets Agnes, a beautiful and mysterious woman desperately fleeing her slave owner. Her bewitching appearance promptly causes tension among the men. Inspired by their fantasies, they become both Agnes’ rescuers and kidnappers. The workers, however, have no idea that their desire has awakened Xtabay, a mystical figure lurking in the heart of the jungle. Filmmaker Yulene Olaizola uses spectacular imagery to recount an ancient Mayan legend. SELVA TRÁGICA immerses the viewer into a vivid experience that turns out to be a contemplative reflection on the brutality and splendour of nature.
