Columbia in the 1980s. The young Canadian Nick and his brother Dylan build a small surfer’s paradise on a pristine, coconut palm fringed beach. When Nick meets the beautiful Columbian Maria, he falls in love immediately. Maria is busy campaigning for her beloved politician uncle – who is none other than the notoriously ruthless drug lord Pablo Escobar. Soon Nick is introduced to the family of his belle, and invited to celebrate the Patrón’s birthday at his luxurious residence ‘La Hacienda’. This new environment is as equally fascinating to the young man as it is unsettling. When he realizes what he’s got himself into, it’s already too late. Based on actual events, director Andrea Di Stefano’s drama is a nerve-racking thriller that allows Benicio del Toro’s talent to prevail.
