In 2006, five men robbed a bank in the city of Acassuso in the province of Buenos Aires and escaped with over $19 million. They were hailed by the population as modern Robin Hoods, because many who had previously lost their savings during the financial crisis saw it as a higher justice that a bank should now be made to pay. Based on the heist hyped by the media as the "robbery of the century", director Ariel Winograd’s crime comedy attracted over 2 million moviegoers to Argentine cinemas in just a few weeks. It tells the story of how the greying heartthrob Luis and his buddies penetrate the bank, empty 145 deposit boxes and escape via a sewer, even though the bank is surrounded by police.
