On the outskirts of a Uruguayan provincial town sits the clubhouse of a long defunct football club – the Bella Vista FC. The shrewd Elisa takes on the derilict building and transforms it into a flourishing transvestite brothel, but the disreputable business soon attracts influential enemies. A group led by the former club’s president Patón – now a local politician – wants to drive the brothel from the clubhouse and turn it into a Catholic chapel. With passion and humour, the village community, Elisa, Patón and some of the sex workers reconstruct the fight for control of the house for the camera. EL BELLA VISTA is a film about small town life, prejudices and passion. Filmmaker Alicia Cano engaged with the townsfolk for more than a year while researching the various motives behind the fight for the house, and then staged them in front of the lens.
