Merce Cunningham created art that is difficult to describe with words – one has to experience it. Together with his long-time partner and composer John Cage and artist Robert Rauschenberg, the visionary choreographer, who died ten years ago, took the multi-dimensionality of a dance performance to the next level. This passionate film project is dedicated to his artistic development, from his difficult beginnings as a dancer in New York in the 40s to his internationally reverberating performances as a choreographer, which led to his fame. Newly staged performances merge with archive footage to create a three-dimensional journey through the life, philosophy and moving work of a legend. Note: Screening in 3D.
