Born 1955 in Paris, director and screenwriter Olivier Assayas seriously began making films at the age of 30. Before, he wrote about films for the influential French magazine „Cahiers du Cinema“. Assayas’ cinema is radically modern, vigorous, emotional, somewhat impenetrable and underscored by rock music soundtracks. Throughout his career, Assayas has collaborated with such acting stars as Maggie Cheung, Isabelle Huppert and Juliette Binoche. Set in the mountains of Grisons, his award-winning drama SILS MARIA (2014) was a huge hit with critics and audiences alike. His film PERSONAL SHOPPER garnered him the award for best director at Cannes this year. This eloquent contemporary’s „ZFF Masters“ session promises to be truly inspirational.
