by Shawney Cohen, Mike Gallay (Co-Director)
Shawney wanted hockey pads for his bar mitzvah and got a lap dance in the family’s strip club instead. „The Manor“ is the Cohen family’s pride and shame. Shawney’s father bought the club 30 years ago when he was in a bit of a tight spot. These days, he has other things to worry about: The obese owner is due to undergo an operation to reduce the size of his stomach. It seems almost grotesque that Shawney’s mother, Brenda, is at the same time chronically underweight: The body reflects the circumstances of life. Brother Sammy seems to be the only person who’s at one with his surroundings. Following several years of absence, Shawney returns as a filmmaker to the family nest and records over a period of two years what it is that’s making the family ill – and holding it together.
