After a cheerful Christmas party, Maria, Henry and their three sons spend a relaxing day by the pool. They’re pleased to be spending their winter holidays in sunny Thailand. It is December 26 and already too late when they see the Tsunami’s deadly wall of water approach the coast. Maria is frozen with fear but her husband grabs their two youngest sons. The powerful wave hits them with an unimaginable force. Separated, they fight their way through the water, driven only by the will to find each other unscathed. Fear and hopelessness reign, yet the young family continue to come across helpfulness, courage and solidarity. Director Juan Antonio Bayona stages the desperate ordeal of a family confronted with one of the most severe natural disasters of recent times.
