by László Nemes
The year is 1913 and Irisz is traveling to Budapest. Having spent her childhood in an orphanage, the mysterious 20-year-old woman hopes to find work in the city's most elegant hat factory, which once belonged to her parents. However, current owner Oszkár refuses to welcome her. When Irisz learns that she has a brother she did not know about, she sets off on a quest for her last living family member. In doing so, she uncovers a past that is threatening her existence. Set in the heart of Europe, just before the outbreak of the First World War, Oscar winner László Nemes (SON OF SAUL) creates a sensual, historical drama that captures the fine details of the haute couture of the time as impressively as it does the uneasy atmosphere during the dying breaths of a society.
