Ricky Turner and his family have been fighting an uphill struggle against debt since the 2008 financial crash. Ever since then, the family father has worked his way through various jobs, while his wife Abby, as an empathetic geriatric nurse, often does unpaid overtime. Things can only get better when Ricky signs a franchise agreement with a shipping company and becomes his own boss. However, the everyday reality of being a freelance parcel deliveryman brings unforeseen challenges. In a business that pays by orders and not by time, Ricky – along with his entire family – soon reaches his limits. Timely as always, Ken Loach uses the package delivery industry to illustrate who in this present-day economic system really draws the short straw.
