by Werner Herzog
Prof. Laura Sommerfeld is part of a small delegation of scientists sent to Bolivia by the UNO to investigate the manmade environmental catastrophe surrounding the ever-expanding Diablo Blanco salt desert. Having arrived at their destination, Laura and her team are immediately abducted. Shortly afterwards, their kidnapper, who introduces himself as Mr Riley, dumps Laura in the middle of the barren landscape. Equipped with nothing but the absolute minimum needed to survive, she finds herself alone in this hostile environment – until Riley returns with news of a surprising change of plan. Werner Herzog’s brilliantly cast, meditatively surreal most recent directorial work once again carries us off to an exotic location and celebrates the beauty and grandeur of a nature jeopardised by unscrupulous corporations.
