Today, Amir and Sara will leave Teheran. A completely new life awaits this young couple in the Australian coastal city of Melbourne. These two Iranians have been preparing for this day for months, but there is still a huge list of things to get done before catching their evening flight: Their trendy two room apartment needs cleaning, the furniture needs giving to the pawnbroker, and so on. When Sara agrees at short notice to take care of their neighbor’s baby, she has no idea how significant her commitment will turn out to be. Knocked sideways by a tragic event, Amir and Sara make one uncertain decision after another – and put their entire plans of a new life at risk. Director Nima Javidi’s intense and intimate feature film debut MELBOURNE burrows deep under the skin.
