by Cédric Kahn
The well-known French director Simon is working on a film about a group of factory workers who are fighting to keep their jobs, but nothing goes to plan during filming. When producer Viviane threatens to cut the budget, the crew fights back by going on strike. To make matters worse, lead actor Alain is acting like a self-centered jerk. The whole setting feels like it came from an abstruse script. So much so that the MAKING OF ends up being a better story than the film itself. Director Cédric Kahn takes a critical and humorous look at the everyday challenges of shooting a movie in this homage to cinema and its people.
