John leads a modern life together with his partner Eric and his daughter in sunny California, far away from the rural environment of his childhood, a farm in the Midwest, where his plain-speaking conservative father Willis still lives in seclusion. When Willis shows the first signs of dementia, John allows him to move in with them. But the bitter old man makes no secret of his aversion to John's sexuality and lifestyle. As tensions grow within the family, father and son must face up to those events that caused their estrangement in the past. This masterfully acted drama explores the deep rifts that appear within a family caught between anger, resentment and acceptance.
