Esteban is living with his mother in Havana. To make ends meet, the 9-year-old helps selling grooming products every now and then. One day, he overhears some wonderful piano music coming from a house. Fascinated by the sound, Esteban has just one wish – learning how to play the piano! His pleas to his mother remain unheard however, and Hugo, the brusque piano teacher, refuses to teach him. Poverty as well as a general lack of understanding for his desires force Esteban to store the idea away in the back of his mind – but Esteban refuses to give up so easily! Underscored by the music of Cuban jazz legend Chucho Valdés, this is a touching film that impressively highlights the precariousness of everyday life in Cuba.
