by Pablo Larraín
When Ema gyrates in ecstasy to reggaeton rhythms on the streets of Valparaíso, she forgets about all her worries. The private life of the young dancer, however, stands on the verge of an abyss: ever since her adoptive son Polo set fire to her house and severely injured her sister, her relationship with her capricious husband Gastón no longer feels right. Being part of his modern dance ensemble does not make things any easier. Ema embarks on a wild odyssey through the city in search of personal liberation – perhaps even the beginning of a new life. Chilean master director Pablo Larraín delivers a drama about guilt and the intoxication of movement that vibrates with humour, tragedy and eroticism.
