It is summer in Paris and the streets are deserted. Neige is visiting her Algerian grandfather Emir at a nursing home. He raised her – and saved her from her quarrelling parents. When Emir dies, Neige begins to delve into his origins, which gradually leads to a crisis of identity. The grandfather’s forthcoming funeral causes tension in the multicultural family, as the question of whether he should be buried with a Christian or a Muslim ceremony triggers heated discussions. In her fifth film as a director, Maïwenn also plays the lead role of a woman who is both strong and fragile. This very personal yet no less universal family drama is inspired by her own story. The pride of origin currently awakening in second generation Maghrebis is a highly topical issue in France today.
