Hollywood, 1969: movie afficionado Vikar gets a job as a set designer in the dream factory. Ever since watching A PLACE IN THE SUN, he wears a tattoo of Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift on the back of his head, which makes him stand out. Like an alien on a strange planet, the socially clumsy nerd lands in the centre of a hectic business, where young directors like Coppola and Scorsese thrive, and decadent parties are the norm. Vikar discovers his talent as a cutter – and the beautiful actress Soledad, who seems strangely familiar to him. Between reality and illusion, power-hungry producers and elaborate backdrops, Vikar’s adventurous journey into insanity begins. James Franco’s latest flick is cool, stylish and highly entertaining.
