1967: the young Student Chen Zhen from the metropolis Peking is posted to Mongolia to teach nomadic shepherds to read and write. These people make their living from the most feared and venerated of animals: the wolf. Chen befriends the nomadic leader Bilig, who teaches him about the behaviour of these savage hunters. Impressed by the nomad’s life and its balance with nature and beast, Chen decides to have a go at raising one of these young wolves. However, the very existence of the community here is threatened one day when a central government officer arrives. He sees nothing but dangerous creatures – and wants to solve the lupine problem once and for all. 18 years after SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET, WOLF TOTEM is the new adventure film from Jean-Jacques Annaud.
