In order to finally quit smoking, Vera begins a course of hypnotherapy. Shortly after the seemingly harmless start, however, an extraordinary side effect emerges: Vera loses all her social inhibitions. This extreme character change not only affects her relationship with her boyfriend, André, but also her professional career. Ernst De Geer's feature film debut is a fresh, modern satire, peppered with situation comedy and relatable dialogues. THE HYPNOSIS makes fun of our individualistic society that pretends to promote self-realisation and authenticity. But when it comes to how we actually have to behave, there is usually little room for compromise.
Swedish filmmaker Ernst De Geer works in Stockholm and Oslo. After initial studies in film at Stockholm Film School, he trained as a screenwriter at Biskops Arnö and studied film directing at the Norwegian Film School. His 2018 graduation film THE CULTURE won awards worldwide and was nominated for the Amanda Norwegian Film Award for Best Short Film.
