by Denys Arcand
A fresco on the wall of a home for the elderly depicts Native Americans welcoming Europeans to America. A group of woke activists want the mural to be recognised as an insult to the First Nations and begin demonstrating in front of the premises. The home's 73-year-old director and so-called "old white man", Jean-Michel, comes under fire and gradually loses faith in a world dominated by political correctness. The Canadian master director Denys Arcand has succeeded in creating a delicious zeitgeist comedy about the culture war, which makes tongue-in-cheek fun of both sides. As a viewer, you often find yourself laughing a little at yourself.
