His real name is Icare, but everybody calls him Courgette. After losing his mother in a tragic accident, Courgette ends up in an orphanage where he finds himself having a hard time settling in. Surrounded by tough bullies, Courgette has to earn his place beside little loudmouth Simon and his friends Ahmed, Jujube, Alice and Béatrice. However, everything changes when one day Camille arrives, a fearless girl who refuses to be pushed around by anybody. At the tender age of ten, there are a lot of things to be discovered: happiness, sorrow, anger, new friendships and first love. This highly acclaimed stop motion film by Claude Barras represented Swiss filmmaking in this year’s "Directors' Fortnight" programme at Cannes.
