Abel is blindsided when he learns that his 60-year-old mother Sylvie wants to marry Michel, a petty criminal who is soon to be released from prison. Ultimately, he wants to protect his mother from another disappointment. With the help of his best friend, Clémence, he begins to shadow the charming new man at his mother's side. But hardly anything goes according to plan – and Abel soon gets not only Michel, but also Clémence and himself into serious trouble. Director and leading actor Louis Garrel effortlessly stages a wonderful comédie humaine that skilfully plays with thriller elements. Delightfully caustic dialogues and captivating acting make for a thoroughly amusing film experience.
