by Manuel Martín Cuenca
Fifteen-year-old Irene has a problem. She is in a juvenile detention centre and pregnant. However, with the help of counsellor Javier, she wants to change her life. Javier and his wife, Patricia, hide Irene in their secluded home where she can carry her pregnancy to term. In return, she is to give the childless couple the baby after it is born. Irene agrees. But the more she feels the child growing inside her, the stronger her maternal feelings become. In atmospheric images, Manuel Martín Cuenca – one of the most important voices in Spanish cinema – constructs a gripping thriller about the blurring of moral boundaries.
