The Korean New Wave, associated with the Renaissance of the South Korean film industry, has enjoyed extreme popularity in the last years, cemented by the historic best picture win at the Oscars for Bong Joon-ho’s PARASITE, a sharp yet subtle critique of the influence of capitalism on South Korean society. The five short films selected are perfect examples of the inventive approach emerging South Korean filmmakers have as they tackle societal issues, such as the complicated relationships to the people around us, the prevalence of technology in our lives, a particularly demanding job, and an unexpected break in our routine.
