Freeheld

Laurel Hester has been a police officer in service for over twenty years. When she is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, she wants to transfer her pension benefits to her domestic partner Stacie Andree, as is usually possible for most domestic partners. But the conservative authorities refuse her request, and make little attempt to hide their homophobia. Laurel puts her trust in her former cop colleague Dane Wells. Initially shocked by Laurel’s sexual orientation, Dane later joins the two women as they fight for their rights. Director Peter Sollett’s FREEHELD depicts the true love and passion story of the lesbian couple Hester and Andree, who fought over ten years for those equal rights that were finally recognised in the USA in June 2015.
