The police put the murders down to the work of Satanists – but who actually committed them still remains unclear. On May 5, 1993, the quiet, small town of West Memphis, Arkansas is put on alert after three eight-year-old children are reported missing. The next day, a huge search operation in the surrounding forests leads to the awful truth: The children have been murdered. One month later, the local police arrests three teenagers – Jessie, Damien and Jason – and put them on trial. Private detective Ron Lax, one of the first to question the charges, begins working for the three suspects. Pam Hobbes, the mother of one of the murder victims, is convinced the devilish “Memphis Three” are guilty – until the first feelings of doubt begin to surface.
