by Jianjie Lin
After an incident in the playground of their private school, the lives of Wei and Shuo become intertwined. Shuo, who comes from an upper-class family, introduces Wei, a boy from a troubled background, to his parents. They quickly take him to their hearts and decide to welcome their son's friend into their home. However, it isn't long before the facade of this new arrangement begins to crack... What follows is a gripping psychological thriller revealing a lot about the pressure to perform in post one-child policy China. A compelling debut film. 'From friendship to hostility: Jianjie Lin explores the limits of human loyalty in her picturesque thriller. One of the best debut films of the year.' – Valeria Wagner
