London during World War II: nine-year-old George is living in the east of the city with his mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) and his grandfather. When the attacks by the German Air Force intensify, Rita sends her son to the countryside. But George defiantly runs away and sets off on the dangerous journey back home from the English provinces. Director Steve McQueen (TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE) allows us to see the city in turmoil through the eyes of a child. BLITZ is remindful of the neorealistic masterpieces by Rossellini and demonstrates how war brings out the best and the worst in people.
