by Andrea Arnold
The twelve-year-old Bailey (Nykia Adams) lives in a squat in the port city of Kent with her half-brother and her father Bug (Barry Keoghan). Rug is unemployed and tries to make money with a hallucinogenic slime. Meanwhile, Bailey is searching for her identity and meets a vagabond in the bog called Bird (Franz Rogowski). He dresses like a bird and speaks with a German accent. Andrea Arnold returns to the city and working class she herself grew up in. The social drama is charged with energy and poetry.
