Hushpuppy lives in the middle of a river on a trailer held afloat by buoys. Together with her father Wink, the confident six-year-old is part of a defiant community living a wild and free life in the Mississippi Delta. She is convinced that nature is a delicately connected web; if a small part of it goes out of control, the whole universe is in danger of collapse. And the world is in danger: Her father contracts a rare disease and all kinds of catastrophes begin: the polar caps melt and reveal huge unstoppable prehistoric creatures that make their way south. Hushpuppy must surrender herself to these dangers in the search for her mother. With BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD, Behn Zeitlin has created a modern fairytale that tackles the dangerous environment and social issues of our time.
