by James Gray
Paul grows up in the 1980s in the New York borough of Queens in a family of Jewish origin. Instead of concentrating on his school career, he prefers to paint and draw. Only his grandfather supports his artistic ambitions. Paul's best friend is the African-American Johnny, with whom he goes through thick and thin. But when Paul's parents decide to send their offspring to a private school, the friendship between the two boys is jeopardised. Director James Gray condenses his autobiographical coming-of-age drama ARMAGEDDON TIME into a parable about the racism and inequality of opportunity still prevalent in the USA today. Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins shines alongside Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong as the adorable grandfather.
