Just when journalist Philip Winter is set to leave the USA after an unsuccessful and frustrating reportage trip abroad, he meets Lisa and her eight-year-old daughter, Alice, at the airport. After a night together, Philip discovers that Lisa has disappeared and left her daughter behind.
