It is the summer of 2020 and a state of emergency prevails in the hospital of a small Bulgarian town. Dr. Popov, as eccentric as he is charming, and his team hurry through poorly lit corridors to visit provisionally equipped patient rooms. Despite a lack of resources and uncertainty about the extent of the Corona pandemic, the hospital staff is committed to each individual. The documentary A PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL takes us through the impressive daily madness of doctors, staff and patients with a precise camera, accompanying them through moments of fear and hope. The result is a homage to the hospital as an institution – and to all those who refuse to be deprived of their sense of humour, even in exceptional situations.
